VPE always opens in split Visual/Source view, despite preferences settings.

# Set 'Preferences » JBoss Tools » Web » Visual Page Editor » Size of Visual Editor Pane' to 0%.
# Open a .xhtml file in 'JBoss Tools HTML Editor'.
#* Expected (option 1): the file opens with the Source tab selected.
#* Expected (option 2): the file opens with the Visual/Source tab selected, with the Source pane maximised.
