I had to remap the keys. Evidently in RHEL Ctrl+Space allows you to change your keyboard mapping or something. So I remapped it to Ctrl+Alt+Space and it works fine. 

To do that go to the Preferences dialog

General->Keys

Type "Content Assist", click on it in the Command list

Clear the binding in the "Binding" field and hit Ctrl+Alt+Space

Should work then.
