@Max re #1: Well the problem here is that the Smooks runtime is trying to make sense of this config namespace and will not consume the config if it is not able to locate the config namespace XSD for validation etc.  I was just offering this as an alternative.  Ideally, a dedicated namespace is nicer... no doubt about that!!

@Max re #2: Yep.... Dart pointed this out to me since I posted that comment.  I'm happy with the auto-layout option :)
