well, you might not have access to a runtime.

I would suggest having a preference that can be "Default (xyz)" (that looks at info like facets, runtime jars, etc. to detect what it should do and xyz being the detected one.

Then have options for JSF 1.x EL, JSF 2.x EL, JBoss EL, etc. relevant. Note, I put JSF 2.x EL here since some of the things from JBoss EL are now available there too.
