Note that while I was able to build and run the tests under Athena (locally), it failed because the current PDE harness doesn't support JUnit4. 

If you want to try running a build/tests w/ Athena, you can:

cd /tmp; \
svn co http://anonsvn.jboss.org/repos/jbosstools/modeshape/releng/; \
cd /tmp/releng; \
ant

(Edit build.properties file to enable running tests, but as I said, it'll fail due to the JUnit 4 dependency.)
