I would say that showing the user a Password Dialog as part of Eclipse startup is not a good idea. Waiting for the first time use and showing Server Dialog in case of failure seems to be good for me. Also if the user clicks on "Reconnect" button there should be the Server Dialog in case the reconnection is not successful.
