Performed a clean installation of JBDS. Installed plugins from update sites according to the following sequence:

1. Mylyn
   http://download.eclipse.org/tools/mylyn/update/e3.4
2. Subclipse
   http://subclipse.tigris.org/update_1.6.x 
3. M2Eclipse (update-dev)
   http://m2eclipse.sonatype.org/update-dev

The creation of a Maven Webapp project now occurs without errors.
