Randall Hauch commented on JBIDE-6654:
--------------------------------------

I'm perfectly interested in finding terminology that fits better into the JBoss Tools eco-system, as long as that new terminology is an appropriate match for the capabilities and semantics of ModeShape. ModeShape and Guvnor/BRMS are not equivalent: Guvnor/BRMS is a rules management system, whereas ModeShape is really a repository system. Any Guvnor/BRMS installation only comes with a single JCR repository, so with Guvnor/BRMS the term "repository" could be used synonymously with the part of Guvnor/BRMS running on a single server.

The server-side component of ModeShape that will be deployed in SOA-P (or any other app server for a non-product installation), however, contains multiple repositories. When connecting to a repository, you have to specify the SOA-P server instance (or cluster) AND the name of the repository AND the workspace. This is why the ModeShape plug-in view has a hierarchy: the view shows (zero or more) servers, each server contains (one or more) repositories, each repository contains (one or more) workspaces. The term "repository" can't mean all of these things, and in fact "repository" and "workspace" are very important concepts in JCR and in ModeShape. The term "server" I'm sure is overused, so I'm willing to consider alternatives (tho I can't think of a single good alternative ATM). But we chose the term "server" because we use it when referring to a SOA-P installation/cluster. Is this not compatible with other uses of 'server' within the SOA-P tooling?

As for the view name, I'm certainly okay with changing it to "ModeShape Repositories". IMO "Repositories" is a bit problematic considering there may be other views with the same name. Perhaps you don't think that's a issue?

> The ModeShape Servers view provides one more overloaded use of the word "Server". Perhaps do what was done for the Teiid Designer's server view and simply call it "ModeShape"?
