You can't create any Seam project or Seam portlet using the New Dynamic Web Project wizard. You have to use the New Seam Web Project wizard.

you got the NPE because you didn't create a JSF/Seam portlet.

JBoss portletbridge 2.0.0.FINAL doesn't recognize the following parameter:
<context-param>
    <param-name>javax.faces.LIFECYCLE_ID</param-name>
    <param-value>SEAM_PORTLET</param-value>
</context-param>
I have created https://jira.jboss.org/jira/browse/JBIDE-6272 related to this issue.
A workaround is to comment/remove this parameter in the web.xml file.
