Dart, I think the behavior is fine as you show it in the screencast. One thing though...

Can you change the message that appears in the dialog to something like:

"The extension of the open Smooks configuration file is no longer correct and will cause exceptions in the editor if you continue. Do you want to close this editor and reopen the file?"
