I did that assuming that installing anything from any external update site is not allowed for JBDS, because in this case we cannot guarantee JBDS works without issues. So all updates are triggered by changing version of root feature and comes from JBDS udate site, which doesn't contain wtp jboss generictadapter plugin. 
If we still need to prevent this happening even for updates from non JBDS update sites it can be done by restoring requirement to wtp server adapters feature (this would fix old Devstudio build) and including transformation plug-ins an configuration in new.product based build (this is to fix new build).
