the cause of this problem was duplicate code in the wizard that allowed to edit a connection. I fixed [JBIDE-7625] and corrected the code in one place. I unfortunately did not notice the existence of identical code in the wizard for editing connections.

I now brought things together and enhanced also the encapsulation of this code.
