right now i'm just using RSE api's to do the transfer. I'll have to see what I can do to find out what I can do with just a regular progress monitor. 

The progress monitor passed in just goes to the Progress view and maybe the little piece on the bottom right displaying percentages. That's a passed in monitor and there's no way I, as the server, can force that monitor to take a dialog presence. The monitor is crearted by the WTP framework and not by me. 

Drag and drop in RSE loads a transfer dialog but I haven't really been able to track down exactly where it's coming from yet, nor how it works, nor whether it's feasible for me to make use of it or not. 

I'm also not sure if two display mechanisms can use the same progress monitor. Would you guys seriously want a full dialog to come up on every publish to block you from working as in the drag and drop? The full dialog takes control of the UI, but you can set it to the background if you wish. Once you set it to background, though, you only see percentages on the quick progress bar, or if you go to progress view you can see file size information too. 

Since I already use their API， I would imagine their APIs correctly update the task name in the progress monitor, but for some reason it seems stuck on "Publishing to servername", even though in my code I constantly update the task name and title, and I would expect the deeper RSE api also does this.

So I'm not at all sure why the progress monitor name seems stuck for publish but not in RSE drag and drop.
