The current XSD and XML Input model building code is not as complete as the ModelBuilder impls used by the Templating code.  Same code should be used in both cases as there is no difference.  The ModelBuilders used by templating attach metadata to the models that can be used to make decisions such as whether or not the node was a collection node etc.
