   Java Breadcrumb widget has complex logic and was mostly created to navigate though java sources: packages, classes, methods, variables. Without doubt this widget and its functionality is very useful. However in my opinion it is not very suitable for the VPE selection bar due to it complicated implementation. So I recon that recreating VPE selection bar on the base of Java Breadcrumb is not efficient in terms of time/efforts. 

   Icons and Drop Down Menus could be easily added to the current Selection Bar. The resulted functionality will be similar to the Breadcrumbs and it will satisfy the issue's requirements. In addition it will be simple and fast.

   Sorry for the delay I should have written this conclusion a bit earlier right after I had reviewed and tested the java breadscrumbs.
