Denis, thanks for swift reply. You're absolutely right. The messages_en.properties was not yet registered in the faces-config.xml file. Once I did this, the dialog started working as expected.

In any case, I would suggest to change this behaviour a little bit. When you create a new properties file by ticking the checkbox, you get an option in the end to have it automatically registered (or not). You could do the same with an existing but not yet registered properties file from the standard location. It could be offered in the drop-down box and then upon finishing the wizard I could get a question like "hey, this is not yet registered - what do you want me to do".
