Anything in the log? (~/.workspace/.metadata/.log) ?

What version of Java are you using? 

Did you install to a read-only location (ie., installed as root, then tried to run as user) ?

Could you compare what's installed in ~/jbdevstudio/studio/ with what's in your ~/eclipsejee/eclipse/ folder to see what, if any, features/plugins are missing? Eg., something like org.eclipse.equinox, org.eclipse.core, *x64*, ...?

Does the window menu work? Can you search for updates / install new stuff (like m2e, for example) ?

Could this be due to something in the OS, like swt or xulrunner being incompatible? Or missing .so files that Eclipse needs (which aren't available in JBDS, but ARE shipped in Eclipse Helios JEE) ?
