@Rob: what I experienced was the following:

1) started a server in cli
2) created a server adapter
3) started the server adapter, server adapter and it correctly stated [Started]
4) stopped the server adapter, which effectively stopped the server, but...

Result:
the server adapter waited indefinitely for the shutdown (the server was already stopped) and I could not stop the waiting job.
