This patch tweaks a couple of things. Part of the issue was that the version wasn't being passed along when an entry was being edited. This takes care of that and adds an additional check to make sure that the null isn't a problem.

I'll have Grid take a gander at the patch so I have another set of eyes on it and we'll go from there.
