This is partially implemented (only in the new simplified wizard page so far, I now need to wire the simple and advanced pages). It looks like :

We check if org.jboss.spec:jboss-javaee-web-6.0:pom:3.0.0.Beta1-redhat-1 can be resolved by Maven if an EAP target runtime is selected
