As to  JBIDE-11539, would the code that addressed that JIRA be in the nightly build jbosstools-3.3_trunk.aggregate-Update-SNAPSHOT.zip dated 23-Apr-2012 21:14 ? If not, I'd be glad to wait until a nightly that does include it.

Regarding your other questions:

We have just short of a thousand XHTML files. (Also about 2500 spring context files, but the problem occurs even without the Spring tools.)

Reference searches with the 3.0.0M5 release (which we are currently using) are quite speedy, definitely under a minute, and with no undue memory usage. I should also point out that I also tested while reusing the same workspace fresh off a search with 3.3.0M5 when I ran the same search with 3.3.0.Beta1/Beta2/trunk, so I don't know that there would have been any initial first-time indexing coming into play.

Adding heap space doesn't seem to solve the problem. Below is a set of heap settings, higher than our usual, I used for testing:

-Xmn256m
-Xms512m
-Xmx1500m
-Xss3m
-XX:PermSize=256m
-XX:MaxPermSize=768m

The heap settings are the only ones I changed when testing.
