Are you behind the proxy?
In my setup I had a different error, an NPE (see above). I talked to the OpenShift dev team and we found out that it was the proxy that caused that error. I fixed the NPE (JBIDE-10675) and updated the client library.
I then tried to reproduce your bug (since I could finally create applications): I cannot reproduce it, I could easily create a jenkins app and embed a jenkins-client.
