James - two different problems in here I believe:

1) Different behavior in run-as from Ganymede - that i'm not sure why that would not include starting jboss since that is what run-as done for an app.

2) That the server view thinks your server is not running but it seems to be running....that one is weird.
   Any chance that server is not setup to run on 8080 or ?
