Could someone actually describe what "gnome shell crash" means ?

Is there a log, is there ane xception ? 

does eclipse itself crash ?
is it the JVM ?
is it the whole window manager?

We've had many "fun" moments with Eclipse and Gnome Shell so actually getting some info on what kind of crash it is we might be able to find the duplicate/cause.
