Also, I tried checking if the port is open and it seems to be ok:

[rasp at marvin default]$ netstat -na | grep 1099
tcp        0      0 ::ffff:10.34.26.31:1099     :::*                        LISTEN      
[rasp at marvin default]$ netstat -na | grep 8080
tcp        0      0 ::ffff:10.34.26.31:8080     :::*                        LISTEN      

(Yes, the IPv6 address seems weird here, but web access shows the same and works fine even from a remote machine.)
