initially I thought there were a technically but i'm fine with either .gitignore or .gitkeep - whatever ever works. 

But I prefer .gitkeep since it makes it more explicit what you want to do since .gitignore indicates you want files ignored but this is about keeping a directory.

Anyway, +1 for this to make the test pass.
