Yecch. Eclipse Mirrors are stupid-slow thru p2. It's why I usually disable the 'check all sites' box when doing Help > Install, or else disable all the eclipse.org sites in the list to avoid the hugely slow metadata crawl that happens w/ eclipse.org and its mirrors.

A cron job to rsync to another server, then have you point at that server would be more efficient.

Because... if you're in Europe, you don't want metadata pointing you back at the US. If you're in the US or Canada, you don't want metadata pointing you at European or Asian mirrors.
