Having a "Cancel" button actually makes sense, you're right.
In the end, I'd see 2 buttons on the wizard: "Cancel" and "Start" (if port-forwarding has not been started/enabled) or "Cancel" and "Stop" (if port-forwarding has already been started/enabled).

We could even have a UI indicator in the OpenShift Explorer (icon decorator for example) to indicate that port-forwarding has been started.
