Summary of mail thread:

stacks.yml provide the metadata for runtime download and other information.
Currently this is all stored and managed in central.
Central is at the top thus this info is not available in other components (like AS server components).
Suggestion is to move stacks down into base or even as a separate plugin.

stacks.yml does not provide fileinfo - can be put into labels.

suggested that stacks.yml get split up to avoid things that download runtimes to only show it when there is plugins available for that runtime. (max: this does not make sense to me - the runtimes have metadata which can be used to filter to only show the relevant ones)

Complains about stacks requiring a big chunk of jars (commons-codec-1.3.jar
commons-logging-1.1.1.jar
httpclient-4.0.1.jar
httpcore-4.0.1.jar
jboss-logging-3.1.2.GA.jar
snakeyaml-1.10.jar
stacks-client-1.0.0.Final.jar). (max: agree this sounds like overkill. should at least be mavenized and logging should be configured to use eclipse instead)

Suggestion that stacks.yml should be maintained by us not JDF team. (max: I dont think that is a good idea. Could see us add another stacks.yml for additions to it but lets be sure we actually need it first)

Rest of mail assumes stacks.yml gets split up (max: not relevant IMO.)
