JST, loading web.xml with org.eclipse.jst.jee.model.internal.JEE5ModelProvider and org.eclipse.emf.ecore.resource.impl.ResourceSetImpl, throws exception when it finds parsing error in XML. That is not user friendly, but that is just what it does.
