Well... Contents in Central haven't changed significantly since 6.0.0.GA, so there's little concern from my end that things won't work.

We're working on a way to be able to pass in the staging URL to JBDS to override the value in the plugin.xml which will enable testing to be much simpler. See https://issues.jboss.org/browse/JBIDE-13599, which I linked to in the last email to QE about the latest Alpha1 respin build.

If you want to do plain update site installs, then you need to add three sites via Help > Install new software > Add ... :

JBDS Target Platform - http://www.qa.jboss.com/binaries/RHDS/targetplatforms/jbdevstudiotarget/4.30.5.Alpha-SNAPSHOT/REPO/
JBDS Core - http://www.qa.jboss.com/binaries/RHDS/updates/development/7.0.0.Alpha1b.core/
JBDS Central/Extras - https://devstudio.jboss.com/updates/7.0-staging/extras/

Then you can browse the Extras site and install whatever is on there.
