I define "backend" as those components that do not normally have a UI - EJBs and MDBs are two great examples. Might they be used in a "web app", absolutely, however, they are server-side in nature. I was hoping to focus on EJBs and MDBs with this "backend" category - as it applies to AS/EAP. In the future, we might add other backend items like Camel.
