I tried your PR and this is what happened when I tried downloading AS 7.1.1:
Progress bar was pretty fast, but still not exactly reflecting the reality - the download went at about 6 MB/s (yeah, that fast), but the progress bar only showed about half the speed. So when I click Cancel, the download stops immediately (looking at Activity Monitor in OS X), but the window will keep showing progress until it reaches reality and only then does the window disappear.
So I think there is no improvement.
