Forge 2 Maven plugin (FORGE-1034) actually only works with Maven 3.1.0. We haven't used Maven 3.1.0 yet because the JBT build does not support it. We were unable to make the Forge maven plugin run in Maven 3.0.5 due to http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/MNG-5498.
