My patch for EGit (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=398387) and JGit (https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=398404) were merged into master today: https://git.eclipse.org/r/#/c/9730/ and https://git.eclipse.org/r/#/c/9732/
They should get available in the next EGit version which should get out mid mai (2012-05-15): http://wiki.eclipse.org/EGit/New_and_Noteworthy The Egit release plan still states EGIt 2.4, but versioning changed in the meantime, it'll be EGit/JGit 3.0 (http://git.eclipse.org/c/egit/egit.git/tree/org.eclipse.egit.core/src/org/eclipse/egit/core/op/PushOperation.java?id=7d46485215479fc05524e5577ec4d8486fb4a99c#n274 and http://git.eclipse.org/c/egit/egit.git/tree/org.eclipse.egit.core/META-INF/MANIFEST.MF?id=7d46485215479fc05524e5577ec4d8486fb4a99c#n5).
