Splash is fixed:

However, after selecting the path for the workspace, the splash screen reverses and appears like this:

I think it's kind of cool but I suspect you might consider this a bug, not a feature.

Tested: jbdevstudio-product-universal-8.0.0.Alpha2-v20140211-1901-B56.jar on Fedora 18 w/ Open JDK 7:
