---------------------------------------------

So your complaint is there is too many ui elements and the update button is missing ?

About the update button - yes, I forgot to add that one - I was just trying to indicate an idea.

That it is easier to just select a few elements and choose what to do with them.

Your suggestion will

A) add a ui element that the user need to take choice between 3(?) options for *every* click

B) earlyaccess will be front and center - that is not meaningful nor our intention. earlyacess should only be something a small % of users do and they should not have to consider it for normal usage - most users will just want the tested and released software.

C) the filtering is a *good* thing. Why do I need to look at the stuff I've already installed if I just want to install something new ? and why should I need to see stuff i dont care about when I do an update ?

D) Most users do not nor should care about individual components in the *common* usecases. Of course we should allow them to care about small details of which single components are installed but why force that level of detail on every user ?

About your concern about some actions will not apply to some selections is not true and the buttons can of course be smart.

Remove/Uninstall on things not installed could just ignore those elements and leave them checked or tell user that X is not possible to be removed because it is installed - but I'll remove Y and Z.

Update and Install could actually just be one button. That is what P2 does. If you are installing something that is actually an update it does an update instead.

That means we just need two buttons: Install/Update and Remove (The name/state of these buttons can actually just change based on the selection. "Update All" when nothing selecting, something selected have it be Update, Install or Update & Install dependent on selection and remove just gets enabled/disabled dependent on if it is relevant).

That is IMO much less combinations than your UI suggestion where users need to think/make a choice for each component and have to look at the same thing all the time.

Please remember that in most cases users should/would just want to go and click Update or "select all" or some specific component and install.
