It's possible that this is an issue with their "working copy" of the svn 
repo. Info here:

"Existing working copies in 1.7 format have to be upgraded to 1.8 format."

Looks like there's a slightly newer version of SVNKit available than the 
1.8.0 version in JBDS 7.1 Central, which they can install from here:

http://subclipse.tigris.org/update_1.10.x (1.8.1)

or here:

http://eclipse.svnkit.com/1.8.x (1.8.2)

I don't know if that will fix the NPE but it might be worth a try, since 
it's 1 or 2 bugfix releases newer than the 1.8.0 stuff we include in 
JBDS Central.
