[~jpeterka] sorry, but i'm not grokking what is so special about JPA Project in this context ?

eclipse chooses the jdk level based on a combination of your current used jdk and compiler/jvm settings in preferences.

If you have a workspace configured to target Java 8 this is expected is it not ?
