there are nothing in this that suggest we are doing 8 to 9 updates. That is a different discussion. 
This here is purely about providing early access versions of newer builds of JBDS (no matter what version is involved).

Changing the splash requires a full update to the product feature which is minority of our user base anyway.

We have had beta's many years now without any specific splash screen besides the version number on the splash and with the jira about making sure Central will make it visible in UI that earlyaccess content is installed that seems for me the right way to do it.
