Brian Fitzpatrick updated JBTIS-83:
-----------------------------------

    Attachment: jbtis-project-examples-community-7.1.xml

Ok, first of all, SOA-P 5 ESB examples do not need updating/migration. ESB is not supported on FSW 6 (SOA-P 6), so that's not an issue.

That said, we do need to get things moved to better homes and make sure that ESB 4.3 and 5.x examples are available to folks developing for those platforms.

Based on a lengthy e-mail conversation and several IRC chats over the last two days, this is what I've done so far...

First, I pulled down all the zips for the ESB 5.x and 4.3 examples and was able to manually update the targeted runtimes and classpath containers to point to the correct 5.3 and 4.3 server definitions locally. Life was good there. Everything compiles and runs.

Second, I grabbed the old http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/examples/project-examples-community-3.1.xml file and made a new jbtis-project-examples-community-7.1.xml file as recommended by Max. That's what I've attached here. By adding that locally (Window->Preferences, JBoss Tools->Project Examples, "Add" to add the local XML file) I was able to import 5.x and 4.3 ESB examples and have the Project Examples wizard do all the runtime and classpath updates for me. Everything compiles and runs.

Next, we need to figure out three things...

a) Where do we put this examples file in JBTIS so it's there permanently and we can use it for BPEL as well?
b) Can we update the https://github.com/jbosstools/jbosstools-central/blob/master/examples/plugins/org.jboss.tools.community.project.examples/plugin.xml#L24 to include the jbtis project examples file to point to the location from (a).
c) Once that works and is stable, where do we want to move these zip files to (out of SVN and to git) be in a more "modern/accessible" location? That will then require us to update the examples file at (a), verify everything still works, and chug forward.

> JBoss ESB (aka SOA-P 5) Examples Need Updating/Migration
> Steps as defined by Nick (thanks Nick!):
> a) the contents of the examples are in a former employee's SVN workspace
> and haven't been updated since a couple of years. They don't really work
> as well as they could.
> b) the examples are all mostly duplicated in the quickstarts folder that
> ships with SOA-P 5.3.1. See
> https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=951677 and
> https://issues.jboss.org/browse/JBTIS-62
> Basically, we need to:
> * fix the quickstarts in SOA-P 6 so they ACTUALLY WORK as importable
> eclipse projects (merge in contents from duplicate examples in Denny's
> workspace). Could decide to backport to 5.3 if there's a 5.3.2 planned;
> if not, no great need.
> * copy the older examples that are not already in SOA-P 5.3 - the ones
> that are *exclusively* in Denny's workspace - into SOA-P 6 so they'll be
> available there.
> * update the BPEL Examples guide as needed
> * document the fact that these examples are no longer available as
> importable zipped example projects contributed by a plugin, but rather
> as already-unpacked projects nested within the SOA-P runtime zip
