Here's what I tried:

1. Install eclipse-standard-luna-R-linux-gtk-x86_64.tar.gz on Fedora 18 with Oracle JDK 1.8

2. Help > Eclipse Marketplace > jBoss Tools Luna (4.2.0 beta)

3. Jboss Central > Software/Update > jBoss Hybrid Mobile tools + CordovaSim > restart when prompted

4. Window > Prefs > Install/Update > Avail Software Sites > Add > http://download.jboss.org/jbosstools/updates/nightly/core/master > OK

5. Help > Check for updates > install everything > restart when prompted

6. File > New > Project > Hybrid Mobile...

7. Right-click the new project folder in Package Explorer > Run As > Run With CordovaSim

Maybe the problem you experienced was a bug in Beta2, which is fixed in CR1 (on the nightly site) ?
