1) OK
2) If your goal here is to work with JBDS 8, then the filename should match. If for JBDS 7.1, then you'll want the file in the 4.1.x branch of your sources and a 7.1 suffix would make sense.
3) https://github.com/jbosstools/jbosstools-esb/raw/jbosstools-4.2.x/features/pom.xml < a file in your 4.2.x branch which will magically be updated every time you push a commit to that branch
