Yeah, I'm with Nick on this one. I think we're quite happy with the build number - it gives us a distinct ID that we can rely on.
I get the point that you cannot reproduce a qualifier twice, but as Nick says, you couldn't have the date either.
Having the corresponding git hash somewhere (is there a place for it? manifest? I don't know) wouldn't be bad, but I don't think build qualifier (=part of filename) is the right place. My $0.02 ;)
