Rob Stryker commented on JBDS-2730:
-----------------------------------

I somehow doubt my input here will be valuable, but, I'll add it.

{code}
dig devstudio.redhat.com.edgekey-staging.net
{code}

Then add to my /etc/hosts file
{code}
23.6.54.29      devstudio.redhat.com devstudio.jboss.com
{code}

I then killed vpn and tried the following command:

{code}
wget http://devstudio.redhat.com/static/updates/8.0.0/jbdevstudiotarget-4.40.0.CR1-SNAPSHOT.zip
{code}

1st result:  41m5.33s
2nd result: 93m18.35s

It was suggested that the first attempt took so long because the local akamai host didn't have the file yet, as I might be the first one requesting it. Well, the 2nd attempt took twice as long as the first.

How do these compare to my attempts without the addition in my /etc/hosts file? Hard to say... I'd probably need to log several attempts overnight when I'm not working in order to get any meaningful results, but, anecdotally, the results don't seem terribly different. My previous attempts would consistantly be around 60 minutes or 70 minutes, and the results here with the akamai host added of 41-93 minutes just seems normal variance to me.

I'm definitely not noticing any special increase in speed, but, it's most likely my internet just sucks so badly that any increase from Akamai is killed by local infrastucture (or lack thereof)

> The updatesite used by marketplace should be behind akamai for smoother/faster download.
> Investigate using akamai/download.jboss.org backed storage.
