What kind of warning would you expect ? That we make a osgi plugin that works with Java 5 that will open a swt window since it probably can't use most of eclipse to warn otherwise ?

Any plugin that states it requires 1.7 will not be started on lower versions thus nothing to warn about.

And forge is not the only plugin that requires 1.7+, all of Luna core and EPP plugins now require 1.7 afaik thus using 1.6 wont give you much anyway.
