[~snjeza] good hint! thanks. I tried different other image formats (gif, tiff, bmp, etc.) and they are all not displayed with transparent background. Png has black background (like in the screenshots while the others use a white background, none is transparent. This looks like an error in GTK for the particular platform, like you hinted.
