[~stalep], I'm using Yourkit. I have to report that I've made progress. I'll be sharing the Yourkit profiler snapshots very soon.

[~maxandersen], I've compared the profiler snapshots against both Windows and Linux, and I must say that this is all down to SWT. SWT does not even feature as a hotspot in the profiler snapshot under Linux. I suspect this upstream bug - https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=352927 and imho, we should consider using unstyled text widgets. It's another thing that the style itself does not appear to be applied in windows, but JBT does change the style.
