[~dgolovin] You're right, I didn't need to add the feature to the install invocation, just the patch feature. Adding it results in the feature being shown as a top-level installed feature, which is entirely fine but... not necessary:

!jbds3383_works_but_exposes_wst.jsdt.feature.png!

But do need to add it to the category.xml so Tycho can find it when building the update site. Rebuilding now to remove the feature from the installation and verify it gets correctly displayed in the Help > About > Install details > Features view.
