Gotcha! so I simply threw too wide a net and 50% of our uses in the first 1.5 year of last 3 years was using older tools versions.

That makes perfect sense. Feel free to close this issue with the new PR applied since you did include/improve better linux detection. Thanks for checking my sanity ;)
